I asked a question about god and all but 3 people slammed me why?

I am an avid believer in god and the christian religon. When i asked a question about it people only mocked me and made fun of me why? I am a college student for aerospace technology at ISU. Everyone here is well educated and accepts everyones beliefs without making fun of them. Many people said i was brain washed for buying into religon but no one forced me i chose on my own its what i want to believe becasue it better than believing there is nothing after. I do not like existential views i dont believe we live to die i want to think there is a purpose to it all. why are people so cold and unaccepting are these people the educated ones who are brainwashed by society to think they can live bad with nothing to punish them for it?
